Frequently Asked Questions
Question:
What is a civil ceremony?
Answer:
Many people choose to be married in a civil wedding ceremony. Civil marriages, just like marriages performed by clergy, are legal contracts between two persons and require actions and agreements between the parties. The ceremonies can be as formal or informal, as traditional or creative as the couple wishes.
Question:
Can there be a religious component to our ceremony?
Answer:
I am appointed to perform civil weddings only; I am not authorized to perform religious ceremonies or use religious/God language. However, if you would like to incorporate some religious aspects into your ceremony, you may invite others to contribute to the ceremony through the offering of prayers, religious readings etc. I am very comfortable with this.
Question:
How early do we need to book a Marriage Commissioner?
Answer:
I would recommend that as soon as you have set a date and secured a venue for your wedding you begin looking for a Marriage Commissioner. If you are considering a summer wedding - the sooner the better! Many couples book a year in advance.
Question:
Do you perform same sex marriages?
Answer:
Absolutely!!! It is an honour for me to officiate a wedding between any two individuals who love each other and are committed to building and sharing a life together.
Question:
Do you have a place to host a ceremony?
Answer:
I have a small house but a very nice back yard! However, I would be able to accommodate a couple who have a minimal number of guests (perhaps 4-6 people) if you have no other option for a venue
Question:
What if you were referred to me?
Answer:
I would be delighted to officiate your wedding ceremony.
Question:
Do you perform ceremonies outside of Strathmore and the County of Wheatland?
Answer:
Absolutely! Depending on the location of your wedding, we might have to discuss an additional mileage charge.
